MVAR® 2022 October E-newsletter

A message from the Board President

Happy October, MVAR:

I am in the final months of my Presidency and representation of our association and I can certainly say that it’s a bitter sweet occasion for me. I am so incredibly proud of the hard work everyone has done to move our association forward. MVAR is incredibly fortunate to have such amazing volunteer leaders, willing to serve our members and our industry. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to serve you in this role, it has been my sincerest pleasure to do so.

With the changing of the year quickly approaching, I am sure you’ve seen that MVAR is looking to fill a few positions on the Board of Directors. If the thought of serving in this capacity has ever crossed your mind, I ask you to put your name in for membership consideration.

Serving in a volunteer leadership has been one of the most rewarding time of my tenure, the friendships built, the relationships made and the valuable insight to happenings in and around our community and industry have been invaluable to my business. Get involved, I promise you will not regret it.

As part of our continuous advocacy work, MVAR has worked diligently to interview and support candidates in local City races, such as Woodburn, Silverton, Stayton, Salem & Keizer. Our Government Affairs Committee has spent countless hours interviewing candidates in local races, on their stance for housing and affordability; which we all recognize is a challenge in our area. A number of these candidates have been endorsed by MVAR, and it is a great opportunity for our association to be more involved locally. These are your RPAC dollars at work.

70% of everything donated stays local. This means, we are able to support candidates that are pro housing and understand the issues that plague our industry and our clients. The ability to endorse and financially contribute to campaigns gives our membership a seat at the table, where tough conversations are being held and decisions are being made. It is one more service we bring to our clients, it’s a value that is often unspoken, but intangible in the pursuit of fair and equitable housing.

I know it seems like I jumped around here, but these are all tied together. You see, whether it’s contributing to RPAC, serving on a committee, running for an open Board seat or becoming President to serve our REALTOR® community, we function as one. We believe that everyone should have access to informative resources and the ability to grow their business by supporting our industry and the foundation of the American Dream. Strong communities and organizations are built by developing strong relationships with partners, businesses and other leadership roles. Both members and home buyers rely on solid partnerships to make their transactions run smoothly and help their customers meet their goals.

In summary, get involved where your passionate. We need you and your contributions to this mission are valuable.

At your service,

Ashleigh Fordham

Deanna Gwyn Campaign Update and Schedule

Here is the walking schedule for the next week:

Saturday at 10am and 1pm
Monday at 3:30 pm
Thursday at 10am

We'll be meeting at the Paddington's Pizza on South Commercial.

Let us know ahead of time if you plan to walk and we'll get you added to the app with a walking list. If you show up impromptu, we can either give you a neighborhood or have you walk with one of us.

Obviously people can walk any time they want as well. We'd like to cover the ward at least twice before the election.

Also:

Sign Locations: We have both yard and field signs. Please help find locations.

Happy October MVAR Community!

I can’t believe that we are already into the fall season. The rain/fall weather has made its arrival and we will soon start seeing leaves changing color. Who else loves this time of the year?!

Our Community Foundation has some exciting news to share with you all! As we get closer to the season of giving, the Community Foundation had the privilege of presenting a $2,000 grant to Salem Free Clinics last month, which was double of what they had asked for.

Salem Free Clinics provides their patients with free visits but the prescription medications needed to treat patients conditions are not free. They have an on-site dispensary where some of their patients receive a 30 day supply at no cost. However, not every medication is available on site or has a free or low cost option.

The proposed request of $1,000 would support Salem Free Clinics to give them the ability to purchase life saving medications for low-income, uninsured patients. For example, one of the most common medications they purchase are inhalers for those with asthma. Some life saving medications can reach up to $1,000 for just one 30-90 day supply. According to the Marion County Community Health Improvement Plan, 14.2% of people in Marion County and 12.6% in Polk County are living below the federal poverty line. Community members below the federal poverty line had a higher prevalence of chronic diseases such as asthma, diabetes and obesity compared to people above the line.

When it was time to discuss the grant request at our board meeting, we all were in agreement to increase the amount that was being asked due to the incredible community impact that it would have.

If you know of any local non-profits that could benefit from submitting a grant request to the Community Foundation, please send us our way!

DON’T FORGET TO SHOW YOUR SUPPORT

BY PURCHASING YOUR RAFFLE TICKETS!

We will be selling raffle tickets until November 16th and the drawing will take place on November 16th at the General Membership Meeting. Please keep in mind that you don’t have to be present to win. This fundraiser will help us raise funds for awarding grants to local nonprofits, fund the MVAR Children’s Christmas Party, etc.

COMING UP:

- SILENT AUCTION RAFFLE @ SOUP WARS IN OCTOBER

The Community Foundation will be hosting a Silent Auction Fundraiser at Soup Wars on October 20th. You won’t want to miss it!
