A message from the Board President
|
Happy March MVAR:
I don’t know how everyone else feels, but it appears that Punxsutawney Phil was correct in his prediction for 6 more weeks of winter. NO!? If the schedule holds true, we won’t be out of winter and snow until the middle of March. I don’t know about all of you, but I am ready for a change in weather. Come on warmer weather, sunshine, a good dose of Vitamin D, spring golf season AND BASEBALL!
I want to thank everyone for the amazing turnout at our Monthly General Membership meetings. It is great to see the room packed again. I hope everyone is enjoying the cinnamon rolls, vendor fair, and content. The Professional Development committee continues to work hard at bringing value to all our educational offerings. Thank you for all your hard work!

This month’s meeting will be our lender panel. I am excited to announce that we will have a commercial lender on the panel this month, too. It will be interesting to see everyone’s outlook for the next 3 quarters of 2023. Get your questions ready for the panel. I do want to apologize that we did not have time for Q&A with the mayor panel. Sorry!
April 11th, April 11th, April 11th. I don’t know if I can stress this date enough. April 11th is REALTOR® Day at the Capital. If you only pick one event to attend for the entire year this is the event. I hope everyone is watching the weekly Advocacy Minute that Oregon REALTORS® is producing. If not, please head to their YouTube page and get caught up. https://www.youtube.com/@OregonREALTORS. You can signup for Realtor Day at the Capital at https://oregonrealtors.org/realtor-day-at-the-capitol-2023/ I hope to see everyone there!
The Special Events committee has been hard at work getting this year’s events scheduled. I wanted to make sure and get these dates out sooner rather than later. Hope everyone can attend!

HAPPY MARCH!
Chapter 3 of 12
In case you haven’t heard yet, we will be hosting a Community Foundation Golf Tournament Fundraiser on August 17th at McNary Golf Course! We are looking for event sponsors as well as golf participants! If you or anyone you know are interested in becoming a sponsor or playing in the tournament, please reach out. This is going to be an exciting event! We would also invite any volunteers to help with this fundraiser.
As you may already know, we raise funds throughout the year so our Community Foundation has the opportunity to grant funds to local nonprofits as well as to fund the MVAR Children’s Christmas Party. We are always looking for ways to give back to our community. If you are aware of any local non-profits that are in need of funds, please send them our way to have them complete a grant application!
|
We have an open board position! If you are interested in the opportunity to join the Community Foundation Board, please reach out to myself (sariejscott@gmail.com) or Chris Christiansen (chris@midvalleyassn.realtor)

What are Climate Friendly & Equitable Communities?
Climate Friendly and Equitable Communities (CFEC) Rules were adopted by the Oregon Legislature in July 2022. As part of these new rules, local governments are required to study, identify, and designate "climate friendly areas" to help provide local residents with more housing and transportation choices while also meeting Oregon’s Climate Pollution Reduction Targets for 2050. These rules require some cities to update their transportation and land use plans and development codes to accommodate walkable, mixed-use development.
What do Climate Friendly Areas look like?
|
A Climate Friendly Area (CFA) is intended to be a place where residents, workers, and visitors can meet most of their daily needs without having to drive. These places may be urban mixed-use areas such as downtowns and transit-served corridors. Both Keizer and Salem are required to identify CFAs within their cities that could contain 30% of needed housing.
For Keizer, this means a minimum of 20 dwelling units per acre and buildings no less than 60 feet tall allowed in the primary CFA. For Salem, this means a minimum of 25 dwelling units per acre and buildings no less than 85 feet tall allowed in the primary CFA. Commercial uses would be allowed throughout each CFA.
Want to learn how Salem and Keizer are planning to implement these rules? Watch the recording of the virtual public meeting held on February 23rd.
