MVAR | Board of Directors Volunteer Application

Are you passionate about shaping the future of your association, community, and profession? Contribute your time, talents, and expertise by serving as a volunteer director on the Mid-Valley Association of REALTORS® (MVAR) Board of Directors.

If you are interested in joining the Board, please review the attached outline of duties before submitting your application. It is essential to understand the time commitment required to help maintain a healthy and thriving organization.

To be considered for the October election, please submit your application by Friday, September 6, 2024, no later than 4:00 PM.


Duties and Responsibilities of the Board of Directors 

  • Provide direction for the organization. The board has a strategic function in providing the vision, mission and goals of the organization 
  • Establish and enforce a policy-based governance system 
  • Govern the organization 
  • Fiduciary duty to protect the organization’s assets and member’s investment 
  • Monitor and maintain functionality of the association 
  • Recruit, supervise, retain, evaluate and compensate Association Executive/ Executive Officer

As a Director of the Board, you are one of the leaders of it. You have several responsibilities which accompany this position: 

  • To keep yourself well informed of current activities and trends in the real estate industry 
  • To attend all meetings and annual retreat of the Directors 
  • To attend the membership meetings 
  • Complete Professional Standards training every two years 
  • To attend the monthly membership meetings, special meetings, and any meetings of committees of which you are a member 
  • To enthusiastically and actively support all projects and activities of the association 
  • To assume an active role in the committee activities of the association • To respond to political call-to-action issues 
  • To generate new membership for the organization in a positive manner (REALTOR® and Affiliate) 
  • To allow only issues and facts, not personalities, to shape your opinions and decisions while on the Board of Directors 
  • To be knowledgeable of and to act according to the Bylaws, policies and procedures of this association and the National Association’s Code of Ethics 
  • To encourage involvement and participation among your fellow REALTORS® in the projects, activities, and political action fund drives of the association 
  • Protect the REALTOR® trademark 
  • Uphold the REALTOR® Code of Ethics

Board members are reminded that confidential financial, personnel and other matters concerning the organization, donors, staff or clients/consumers may be included in board materials or discussed from time to time. Board members should not disclose such confidential information to anyone.

Summary: Service on the Board of Directors will have a significant impact on the Association, and Directors personally, if goals are set and kept. As Directors achieve goals, service on the Board of Directors can be one of accomplishment and influence over the future of the Association.
